The charismatic singer is heading for Norwich Arts Centre on Tuesday – and on the basis of this, her debut album, she’ll be well worth
checking out. Some top jazzers are in her band, most notably the reeds maestro Gilad Atzmon and percussionist Asaf Sirkis, but musically she’s more at home in the urban folk/ world category, if categorise her we must. She has a powerful, expressive voice and
her lyrics are thoughtful – in the realms of poetry, in fact (not surprising in view of her love for Bob Dylan’s output). Houdini of the Heart leans towards the modern chanson of Madeleine Peyroux, while Ahmed & Dangerous is the jazziest track here/Trevor Sarah Gillespie
