DONDESTAN
Sarah Gillespie is a creative tour de force - a critically acclaimed singer songwriter, poet and expressionist painter.
On the back of her 2 previous art collections, she’s joined forces with UK charity Side by Side with Refugees for her new series of paintings ‘Dondestan’. The title from Robert Wyatt’s 1973 album, in Spanish translates phonetically ‘Where are they?’
Like her previous art collections, each painting is inspired by specific songs and pieces of music including Tom Waits, Joan Baez, Sidney Bechet, Bob Dylan, Ian Dury, Victor Jara and Sister Rosetta Tharpe.
Each piece is mixed medium: oil, acrylic, metallic ink, pen and conte on duck weave cotton canvass with timber frames.
